The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Is Getting a Dramatic Reboot

The first teaser for the revival of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is now available.

Peacock’s reinvented drama “Bel-Air,” inspired by the ’90s comedy, is based on Morgan Cooper’s viral fan video Bel-Air, which was released in 2019. Jabari Banks, a newcomer, plays Will Smith’s character from the original series, which ended in 1996.

In the underwater footage, Smith, who acts as executive producer, offers a dramatic rendition of the show’s theme tune. Banks wears Jordans as a nod to Smith’s character’s footwear. There are also basketballs, trophies, and pairs of dice, a nod to the words of the song, “The license plate read ‘Fresh,’ and it had dice in the mirror.” At the conclusion, a crown is put on Banks’ head as he ascends to the throne of Bel-Air as Prince of Bel-Air.

The hour-long series is set in the present day and follows Smith as he travels from the streets of West Philadelphia to the guarded mansions of Bel-Air.

“At its core, Bel-Air is a coming-of-age drama that honors the resilience and love of the Black family,” stated Executive Producers and Co-Showrunners T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson. “We have maintained loyal to the legacy series’ original premise—life Will’s is flipped upside down when he is forced to leave West Philly and settles in Bel-Air with its guarded mansions and luxury, but our new series pulls Will and the Banks family into the world as we know it today.”

Adrian Holmes portrays Phillip Banks, Cassandra Freeman portrays Vivian Banks, Olly Sholotan portrays Carlton Banks, Coco Jones portrays Hilary Banks, Akira Akbar portrays Ashley Banks, and Jimmy Akingbola portrays Geoffrey.

“Bel-Air” is set to launch next year and has already been renewed for two seasons.
