Mary J. Blige Says Her New Album Will ‘Blow Everybody’s Mind’

Nov 30, 2021

Mary J. Blige is eager to share her world with the world once again.

The R&B legend has been working on her debut album in almost four years. During her interview on “Tamron Hall” on Monday, she discussed learning to truly love and accept yourself in the midst of her life’s “darkest periods.”

Her recent experiences, including her divorce, inspired the project, which follows 2017’s Strength of a Woman.

“Wait till you hear it, it’s going to blow everyone’s mind,” she promised. “And it’s because it’s something I had to do and say when I was at my worst, darkest periods in my life to build myself up to this person that I can see and accept my nose, accept my eyes, accept my cheeks, accept all the things that I used to despise.”

She has grown to embrace her shortcomings and has never felt better. “When I wake up without my hair and makeup, I embrace that lady who goes to the restroom and I like her,” she said. “I spend a lot of time with myself. “I’m my best buddy.”

The Oscar winner, who portrays Monet Tejada on Starz’s “Power Book II: Ghost,” also spoke about her high-profile divorce from Kendu Isaacs, which was completed in 2018.

“I simply kept going and didn’t become bitter,” she said of the trying times. “I was agitated… I simply let God drive and do his thing because anything I did would have been a tragedy.”

The 50-year-old artist will perform with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar during the Super Bowl halftime performance in February.

“That’s a tremendous platform, and the whole world is watching,” she told ET. “Be attractive, powerful, and fearless, and give the world what it needs with the little time I have.”
