How to link your NIN with your SIM card: MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile

Following a directive from the Federal Government through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that all mobile phone users in Nigeria must link all SIM cards to NIN due to security concerns, NIN has become an important identity for all Nigerians.
If you haven’t linked your SIM card yet, this article will show you how to do so on MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, and 9MOBILE.

All mobile phone users must provide their NIN to their service provider; once your NIN has been successfully verified with NIMC, your verified NIN will be linked to your SIM registration.

This directive is directed at all Nigerian citizens who are telecoms subscribers. Your NIN must match your SIM Registration information.

How do I double-check my NIN number?

You can find your 11-digit number on the second row of your NIN Slip in the top left corner. You can also get your NIN by dialling *346# and pressing 1.

How to link your MTN subscriber sim card to NIN.

MTN subscribers can link their sims using the following methods: ussd code, sms, MyMTN app, and online portal: The steps below will show you how to connect your sim to NIN.

Subscribers to MTN can simply dial *785*Your11-digit NIN# and follow the prompts.

You don’t have to pay for the service because it is free.


Text ‘MYMTN’ to 5018 to download the app, or go to to link your SIM card to NIN.


Simply text NIN- your 11-digit NIN to 785 as an MTN customer, for example: NIN-12345678999 to 785.

Customers of Globacom can now link their National Identification Numbers (NINs) to their mobile phone numbers by dialling *109* NIN #, for example *109* 12345678923 #. Subscribers can also send text messages to 109 by texting ‘UPDATENIN NIN FirstName and LastName’. Send ‘UPDATENIN 12345678903 Emeka Chukchuma Destiny’ to 109, for example.”

Customers of 9Mobile, formerly known as Etisalat, can link their NIN by dialling *200*8# or going to and following the instructions.


To link their NIN, Airtel customers should dial *121*1# or go to and follow the instructions.

App for NIMC Mobile ID

Following the steps below, mobile users in Nigeria can use the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) application to link their sim to NIN.

1. Go to and download the app.

2.Open the app and enter your security PIN to log in.

3.On the app’s dashboard, tap the ‘My Devices’ button in the bottom right corner.

4.Click ‘Add Mobile Number’ and enter the phone number you want to connect.

5.Input the OTP that was sent to that phone number.

6.Up to seven (7) mobile phone numbers can be linked.
